I got tired of the bare (and lavender... thanks sfbritskin) walls of my new room, so I bought some art. Matthew Marks gallery in NYC is sending me this naylandblake drawing.

It's rather sweet... Nayland has done many more extreme pieces. But I like this one. I identify as a bear - but maybe now that I'm in San Jose, I should start thinking of myself as a bunny:

"Conceptual artist Nayland Blake's use of the character of a bunny rabbit in his artwork began as a way of discussing the stereotype of homosexual male promiscuity. When he began to investigate the complexity of identity, taking into account his gender and sexuality as well as his own biracial mix of African and European heritage, he started to see the bunny in the context of not only a pop cultural icon that could be subverted to express gay identity but also as the African American folk hero of the Uncle Remus tales."

I thought that if I couldn't have Nayland Blake in my bed... at least I could have him hanging over it. To see more of his art, please check out:

I used to have a gimp which I kept locked in rubber and leather. I remembered to feed it every day, but I must have forgotten to drill holes in its box, because it eventually died...

No, no pets. I love big fat "oranda" goldfish, but I disassembled my fish tank when I moved to San Jose. I want to buy an English bulldog, 'cause I love them. I'd name it "Grunty" or "Grumpy" or something like that.

But I've been traveling so much lately I don't think it would be fair to the dog. I have a lot of "pet guilt" where I am not sure if it is ethical to own an animal for my pleasure...

By any reasonable standard, that hat in the icon could be considered a pet.

I'm going to have to dig out my beastiality dvds and photoshop a pet for him now. The cuteness will be unbearable.

there's some great "pet hotels" here that take extraordinarily good care of animals when their people are away, so it might not be such a bad thing. Bigger question, are you gonna get a buttplug with a bunny tail now?

Wow, that's a beautiful piece.

Are you sure you can't get to NYC this winter? Nayland's having a big retrospective show opening, including a performance of "Gorge".

And since you probably weren't reading my LJ back then,
